EpoxySystems' Product #1005

Rapid Setting Cementitious Mortar/Grout

DESCRIPTION

EPOXYSYSTEMS’ PRODUCT #1005 RAPID SETTING MORTAR is a non-shrink cementitious blend with exact ratios of graded siliceous aggregates and other ingredients that produce a strong, durable, rapid repair and resurfacing product. PRODUCT #1005 is easy and fast to use and has excellent durability and workability. PRODUCT #1005 is ready to use, simply add potable water and mix to desired consistency. PRODUCT #1005 is specifically formulated and manufactured to meet Maryland DOT Class II, Type II rapid setting mortar or concrete.

ADVANTAGES

EPOXYSYSTEMS’ PRODUCT #1005 exceeds all requirements of ASTM C 928. It is especially formulated to be used for concrete repairs, with minimum downtime, where rapid strength gain, good durability, minimum shrinkage and positive bond are essential. Up to 30 lbs. coarse aggregate per bag may be added when patching areas where depth exceeds 2 inches.

COVERAGE

Each 50-lb. bag (23 kg) yields approximately .40 cu. ft. of mortar when mixed with .85 gallons of water. When EPOXYSYSTEMS’ PRODUCT #1005 is mixed with 30 lbs. of clean dry 3/8 inch aggregate it will yield approximately .60 cu. ft. To produce compressive and flexural strengths shown, water should not exceed .85 gal. to each 50-lb. bag.

SURFACE PREPERATION

Areas to be patched must be cleaned to sound concrete. Precautions should be taken, if sandblasting, that water and oil collection pots are used in compressed air delivery lines. Before placing EPOXYSYSTEMS’ PRODUCT #1005, the area to be patched should be wetted with clean water to minimize water withdrawal. Remove freestanding water just prior to placement.

MIXING

PRODUCT #1005 should be mixed in rotary drum or other suitable mechanical mixer. Introduce measured amount of water to mixer, about 3 quarts per bag. If adding aggregate add one-half of the aggregate. Add PRODUCT #1005 to water and aggregate with mixer operating. Add remainder of aggregate. Mix one minute, then if necessary, add a small amount of water during the second minute of mixing to obtain desired consistency. Dump batch and immediately deliver PRODUCT #1005 mix to prepared pavement area. Clean mixer by adding water and allowing mixer to run. Level the PRODUCT #1005 to the surrounding pavement with an appropriate screed and before set, broom finish if necessary. If smooth finish is desired, trowel lightly before set. PRODUCT #1005 can be mixed in wheelbarrow by hand for small patches. PRODUCT #1005 is easy to finish in small or large patches.

CURING

Cure as soon as possible after the repaired area has hardened. For best results, saturate with water and cover with wet burlap and polyethylene. Curing compounds may be used when a water cure is not practical.

LIMITATIONS

PRODUCT #1005 should not be used in temperatures below 40oF (4oC). Lower temperatures produce a slower set; higher temperatures produce a faster set. PRODUCT #1005 should not be applied at less than 1/2" (12.7 mm) thickness. If used in areas where acidic chemical spillage is present, it should be protected with a coating such as #640 Multifunctional Coating. For best results when placing against existing concrete, apply Product #7 Bonding Agent immediately prior to placement.

CAUTION: Contains Portland Cement and Silica. Avoid breathing dust. Cement powder or freshly mixed concrete, grout or mortar may cause skin injury. Avoid contact with skin; wash exposed areas promptly with water. If any cement powder or mixture gets into eyes, rinse immediately and repeatedly with water. Get prompt medical attention!
